Telegraph Hill

Telegraph Hill is a neighborhood in San Francisco, California, located on the city's northeastern outskirts. The neighborhood's most well-known residents are a flock of parrots that have lived here for many years. Coit Tower, located at the top of the hill, is the most visible landmark in the neighborhood. You can find the famous Filbert stairs, bars, and restaurants on Filbert Street in Telegraph Hill.

Although it's mostly residential, Telegraph Hill is home to many small businesses, including art galleries, cafes, and shops. It's one of San Francisco's original seven designated city hills, even though there are currently about 50 on the list. Stockton is to the west, Sansome is to the east, Francisco is to the north, and Broadway is to the south.

The flock of red-masked parakeets is a very unique feature of Telegraph Hill. They've lived in this part of San Francisco for years, but are native to Peru and Ecuador. They were once popular household pets, but are believed to have escaped or been released since they are by nature very loud birds.

It's thought that many different pet owners released these parakeets in the same period of time, so they mated and formed the flocks that we see in San Francisco today. They move around the city a lot, but if you want to see them you will not miss their loud screeches and squawks.
